Der frühere US-Footballstar Steve McNair ist tot in einer Wohnung in Nashville aufgefunden worden. Er wurde offenbar mit mehreren Kopfschüssen getötet, wie die Polizei mitteilte. Eine 20-jährige Frau, die als „eine Freundin“ bezeichnet wurde, lag ebenfalls tot in seiner Nähe. Sie wies einen Kopfschuss auf, eine Waffe lag neben ihrem Körper. Der 36-jährige McNair habe auf einem Sofa im Wohnzimmer gelegen, sein Freundin ganz in der Nähe daneben auf dem Boden, teilte die Polizei weiter mit.

Police said it looked like a double homicide. A woman was also found dead on the premises, but a spokesman said her identity was not confirmed, despite reports to the contrary. A call was answered by the police at 1:30 ET from someone in his apartment saying there was an injury. When police arrived, they found McNair and the woman dead. We'll update more news when we have it, but it's a heart-stopping tragic story on our nation's birthday. Our condolences go out to McNair's family.

The woman shot to death along with Steve McNair Saturday was his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi.
Police revealed more information Saturday night. McNair was shot multiple times, including a wound to head. Kazemi, who they called a friend, was killed by a single gunshot to the head. The Nashville police are treating it like a murder suicide. Another wrinkle is that Kazemi was arrested for DUI earlier this week. McNair was in the passenger seat at the time. The car is registered in both their names. McNair's wife is reportedly "distraught" and said she hadn't heard from McNair in a few days. The police say his wife is not a suspect.

Preliminary test results show that Steve McNair's mistress, Sahel Kazemi, fired the gun found at the scene of their deaths.
Tennessee state medical examiner Dr. Feng Li conducted autopsies on the bodies and found gunpowder on Kazemi's hands. The residue was traced back to the gun found under Kazemi's body, which she bought days earlier. Nashville police haven't made it official yet, but most signs continue to point towards a murder-suicide. More evidence will be revealed later this afternoon.

Nashville police formally classified the deaths of Steve McNair and mistress Sahel Kazemi as a murder-suicide at a press conference Wednesday.
Police believe McNair was asleep when Kazemi (allegedly) put two bullets in his chest and two in his head, then executed herself. They also think Kazemi had told friends about her plan to "end it all" after she suspected him of having another mistress. Kazemi's life "was spinning out of control," the Nashville police chief said, adding that "Mr. McNair's shots were likely very quick. The totality of the evidence clearly points to a murder-suicide."
